The Louisiana State University Museum of Zoology was formed in 1936 when its first director, George H. Lowery Jr., assembled a few study specimens of birds in a classroom in Audubon Hall. It operated under the auspices of the Dept. of Zoology and Physiology before becoming a subsidiary of the new Museum of Natural Science around 1953, but still retained the name Museum of Zoology.
